STIPPLE ENGRAVING Stipple engraving is an indirect technique of engraving, that is without acids, used especially on copper or zinc plates. Differently than in the chalcographic technique, a stippling tool is used to create images with dots. The stippling forms a ground of burrs on the plate and,
as in the dry point technique, the artist can either remove or leave them,
depending on the effect he wants to achieve.
